What to expect
Once you arrive at Tranquility, we will greet you and ask you to fill out a Client Intake Form. The Client Intake Form is where you record any medical history, past/present injuries and other physical conditions we should be made aware of. Your massage therapist will review the Client Intake Form with you. They will inquire about the reason(s) you are coming for a massage, your current physical condition and any specific areas in which you are experiencing pain or would like addressed during your massage.
***We ask that if you have an email address to please put it down, as we only send out specials, discounts, promotions, and coupons via email***
Your massage therapist will then take you to a tranquil treatment room where a comfortable (heated or unheated) massage table dressed with clean sheets awaits. A table for your personal belongings and a chair are also provided for your use. Your massage therapist will leave the room to go wash their hands while you undress to your level of comfort. (Some clients prefer to completely undressed, while some will remain partially clothed.) Once undressed, you will lie on the massage table, under the top sheet. Your massage therapist will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door before entering your room. You will always be draped with the top sheet during your massage session. Your massage therapist will only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times. Please alert us at anytime during your massage if any technique, stroke, or pressure is uncomfortable.
After your session
After your session it is recommended that the client consume plenty of water to flush out the acids and toxins that have been released during the massage session. Occasionally, after a deep tissue massage, some clients will experience slight discomfort after the session that is similar to that felt after an intense gym workout. This is a normal result of increased circulation to the injured muscles and should disappear in a day or two. If needed, ice may be applied to the area in 10-15 minute segments.
Frequency of Massage
Each client is unique so speak to your therapist about what schedule is right for you. Massage is effective for when you are experiencing pain, but your body constantly takes abuse so it is generally recommended that healthy clients receive bodywork every 3-4 weeks and clients with injuries should receive bodywork every 1-2 weeks.
Why should I get a massage?
Massage is a powerful form of self-care that helps you stay healthy by reducing stress, boosting your immune system, helping you relax, enhancing your sense of well-being as well as many other benefits. Regular massage can relieve neck, shoulder, and back pain. Massage helps you feel better physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
How long is a massage session?
Most people come for a 60 minute massage, but 30 minutes and 90 minutes are also available. If it is your first time at Tranquility, it will take a little longer to go over your health history form, ask questions, answer questions, etc.
What should I do during a massage?
Primarily, you should relax! Focus on your breathing and try to let go. It is up to you whether or not to talk, but most people choose to close their eyes. Feel free to ask questions at any time. Remember that this is your massage, and you should do what feels most comfortable to you.
How much of my body will be massaged?
This will vary depending on the length and type of massage you choose. The massage will never exceed your comfort level. During the pre-massage interview, we will go over areas you want to focus on and discuss any concerns you have.
Does a massage hurt?
No. A massage should feel great and wonderful. You do not need to hurt during a massage in order for it to be therapeutic.
Do I have to get undressed to get a massage?
For chair massage, you remain clothed. During a typical table massage, you undress down to your comfort level, but your body always stays draped, and I will uncover only the part of your body currently being massaged. Feel free to discuss any concerns with us.
What is draping?
Draping means that you are completely covered, under a sheet during your entire massage and this is NOT negotiable. We REQUIRE draping!!!
Is Massage sexual?
Absolutely NOT. We strictly provide therapeutic services ONLY and have no tolerance for inappropriate behavior. If inappropriate behavior occurs, the massage will be terminated early for the full price of service. THIS IS STRICTLY ENFORCED!!!
How often should I receive a massage?
Your personal situation will determine how often you receive massage. For chronic pain or medical conditions your therapist and/or medical doctor will help you determine what is best for your needs. Massage is one of the best things you can do for yourself on a regular basis to stay healthy and maintain a sense of well-being in spite of stressful life situations!
Is the Massage Therapist licensed?
Yes. We are certified, licensed and insured.
What do you use for oil?
We use massage gel. Our customers seem to like it because it is not sticky like lotion/cream and it isnt very greasy like oil. It also absorbs in the skin, so it is also a moisturizer.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. We are a small establishment and our appointments fill up fast. We ask that you please make your appointments 24-48 hours in advance. You may call 781-315-1784, email info@tranquilitytm.com, or use our "book online" schedule.
Do you allow walk-ins?
No, not at this time.
